Golden Isles Golf Weekend: Where to Stay and What to Book

The Golden Isles offer resort golf on Saint Simons and public golf on Jekyll Island, but access rules differ sharply. A successful golf weekend starts with a confirmed course and tee time, then adds lodging that fits that reservation.

Do not choose a hotel based only on its distance from a course. Tournaments, maintenance, renovation work, guest eligibility, and booking windows can all limit play.

Sea Island: Resort Golf With Controlled Access

Sea Island lists three 18-hole courses: Seaside, Plantation, and Retreat. The PGA TOUR's 2026 RSM Classic page names Seaside and Plantation as the event courses. Sea Island also publishes a course schedule because tournaments, aerification, maintenance, and other work can restrict play.

Sea Island's policies say its golf courses and other resort facilities are for eligible resort guests and club members. The Inn by Sea Island can be paired with official golf packages, but an Inn reservation should not be treated as an automatic tee time or blanket facility access. Confirm the course, tee time, package inclusions, and transportation before the hotel's cancellation deadline.

Read a Private Golf Experience Carefully

A short private golf activity can fit a mixed-interest trip, but an activity listing is not proof of an 18-hole round on a named course. Review the provider, meeting point, duration, equipment, level of instruction, course access, cancellation terms, and every inclusion before paying.

If playing Seaside, Plantation, or Retreat is the goal, obtain direct confirmation from Sea Island. Do not infer access from the words "private," "professional," or "Sea Island" in a third-party activity title.

Find a Slower Pace on Jekyll Island

Jekyll Island Golf Club is open to the public and currently lists three 18-hole courses: Great Dunes, Pine Lakes, and Indian Mound. This is a clearer option for travelers who do not want resort-guest eligibility tied to the tee time.

Great Dunes was restored and reopened as an 18-hole course in fall 2025, combining its Walter Travis history with a new configuration. That makes older descriptions of Jekyll as a four-course, 63-hole facility obsolete. Jekyll Island Club Resort and The Westin are two different lodging styles nearby, but tee times remain separate purchases unless a package explicitly says otherwise.

Unwind by the Ocean

King and Prince, Hotel Simone, and other Saint Simons hotels can work as lodging for a golf weekend without implying Sea Island course access. Compare drive time, parking, breakfast timing, club storage, and cancellation flexibility. For a Jekyll round, compare the Jekyll Island Club Resort and The Westin against simpler island hotels using the same criteria.

Book in This Order

1. Choose the specific course and date.
2. Verify player eligibility, closures, booking window, rates, cart or caddie requirements, rentals, and cancellation terms with the course.
3. Secure the tee time or an official golf package.
4. Book a hotel whose cancellation policy protects the trip if the golf plan changes.
5. Recheck the course schedule and weather before departure.

This order avoids paying for a golf-themed stay without confirmed golf.
